camp volunteers

Y'all Rock Carbondale is a program for girls, trans, and gnc youth to rock out. Volunteer positions are open to cis gendered and trans women, as well as gender non-conforming individuals. Staff must be mature, responsible adults, pass a basic background check, and be committed to communicating and growing together.

Every session of camp includes an expectation to commit to: volunteer orientation, at least 50% camp-week participation, setting up camp, breaking down camp, and a post-camp rendezvous. Camp-week commitments as well as yearlong organizing commitments are realized on a case-by-case basis depending on availability and position applied for.

The Y’all Rock summer camp program is back to being a week long camp after having to shorten the duration during the height of the pandemic. We offer stipends for our full time volunteers as we understand this commitment can create financial insecurity for some.

Instrument Instructor

Open to Trans or Cis Women & Non-binary individuals.

An instrument instructor teaches beginning and/or advanced instruction on one instrument: guitar, bass, keys, drums, or vocals. We teach a rudimentary curriculum with the expectation that every camper has learned at least three chords for the week, can play in time, and understands gear basics (plugging in, tuning, troubleshooting).

Band Coach

Open to Trans or Cis Women & Non-binary individuals.

A band coach mentors one band all week and works to foster collaboration and communication among the band, ensures each youth is comfy on their gear, facilitates songwriting, and preps for a stellar performance.

CAmp Counselor

Open to Trans or Cis Women & Non-binary individuals.

A camp counselor mentors one band, in partnership with the band coach. Counselors work to foster collaboration, communication, kindness, support, collective care, respect, and comfort in a non-competitive environment. Counselors must be patient, compassionate, and able to multi-task!
